On a somewhat rainy Saturday, April 2 nd, approximately 10 members of the Halifax FEHA District participated in the annual Halifax River Clean Up event. Members lead by District Chairperson Ron Freeman met at the Port Orange Riverside Park and Community Center to begin the clean up of the shore line on the west side of the river at the park and behind the community center building. Members cleaned up about 15 bags of trash, and as usual, many items such as hypodermic needles and other dangerous items were picked up.
After cleaning up at the Riverside Park, members moved over to the west side of the Dunlawton bridge to clean up that area across from Aunt Catfish’s restaurant. There, another 5 bags were removed with pieces of some sailboat and railings from a condo or home.
Each member participating received a very nice tee shirt ( no advertisements on this one!)
and also $5 in FEHA Bucks to use to purchase any item from the state FEHA website such as a shirt, hat, lapel pin etc. The big winner of the day was Lee Faircloth, who won the drawing for the $45 in FEHA bucks! Congratulations to Lee!
After the clean up, members were able to go back over to the Daytona city marina to have a free lunch, listen to music and participate in the contests for the most unusual items found…….
Good job to all of the members who made it out to help clean up!! The community appreciates your support!
